In the Police Court yesterday — before Bailie Perrie — Charles McGonagall, hackle-maker, Step Row, was charged with assaulting the police on Saturday. The libel set forth that the accused, Charles McGonagall, assaulted Constables Scott and Watt at the door of the house in Paton’s lane occupied by William McGonagall, weaver, while the officers were engaged investigating a charge of assault on the mother and sister of the accused, which he was suspected of having committed, the officers having been called to the house by a brother of the accused. Charles pleaded guilty to assaulting the police, and was fined 30s, with the option of twenty days in prison.
