Considerable amusement was created in the Dundee Police Court yesterday by Poet McGonagall, carrying a ponderous basket, stalking in. The Bailie had just left the bench, but the poet fastened on the officials and complained that two boys had annoyed him on the street. They had, he said, a barrow and two baskets, and he explained that he had seized a basket, thinking by that means he might assist the police in detecting his persecutors. He added that he would be obliged to leave the city if he were not protected, as he believed that such annoyance was prejudicial to his health. The officials sympathised with the poet, and stated that he would be safeguarded in future. With this assurauce McGonagall left satisfied.
